School of Excellence Program

The Schools of Excellence (SOE) have provide world-class STEM education in Saudi Arabia’s Northern Borders Province, shaping the next generation of mining leaders. Partnered with the Ministry of Education and key stakeholders, the SOEs have already helped over 3,000 students pursue higher education, preparing them for elite universities at home and abroad.

Ultra-low-carbon ammonia exports

In 2023, we were certified by the DNV to produce 614,000 tons of ultra-low-carbon ammonia, using a unique method that captures waste heat for clean energy. This reduces grid dependency and prevents the release of 450,000 metric tons of CO2 annually by capturing CO2 from our Ras Al-Khair ammonia units.

Afforestation initiatives

We launched our Afforestation Initiative in alignment with the Saudi Green initiative (SGI). We aim to plant 10 million trees and 10 million mangroves by 2040 as we enhance biodiversity and restore Saudi Arabia’s coastlines. We have planted over 345,000 trees across the National and Royal reserve and are developing a national mangrove park in partnership with the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu on Gurmah Island.

Tharwah Local Content Program

Launched in 2022, our Tharwah Program supports Saudi entrepreneurs, suppliers, and businesses, aligning with Vision 2030’s economic goals. By 2040, we expect to spend SAR 55 billion on goods and services, generating SAR 33 billion in Local Content and contributing SAR 88 billion to Saudi GDP, while creating up to 47,000 jobs for Saudi nationals.

WAVE Initiative

As an anchor partner of WAVE, we are driving ocean regeneration. As a global platform led by H.R.H. Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud with the FII Institute and the Ministry of Energy, WAVE is restoring marine ecosystems and advancing ocean-based climate solutions to support sustainable outcomes.

Mangrove Protection and Restoration

We aim to plant 10 million mangroves by 2040, restoring Saudi Arabia’s coastlines. In partnership with the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, we are planting on Gurmah Island, protecting ecosystems that stabilize shorelines, sequester carbon, and purify water.

Reducing CO2 emissions

We are continuing to reduce Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions substantially year on year as we advance our goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 while supporting global sustainability efforts. We are developing innovative including solutions for capturing 450,000 metric tons of CO2 each year from our ammonia units for industrial use, helping to drive our decarbonization strategy.

Maaden
Reducing groundwater usage

Our partnership with the National Water Company uses treated wastewater to reduce reliance on natural water sources. With 300 km of pipelines supplying phosphate complexes in Wa’ad Al-Shamal, we aim to cut groundwater use by 50% in 2024, supporting sustainability and lowering operational risks.

Maaden
Biodiversity management

Our Biodiversity Management standards provide a strategic approach to identify and mitigate operational impact on biodiversity at all stages in the mining value chain: from exploration and project development, to operations and closure. Working in collaboratation with Ministries and National Centers, we are committed to preserving biological features and wildlife in Saudi Arabia.
